CLUB REPORTSJanuary Walk - Butterbridge With most of us bloated from the festive season feasting it came as a relief to have the East Kilbride Mountaineering Club bus run for January to the geographically close destination of Butterbridge on the A83 road just past the Rest and be Thankful. There was still evidence of the recent landslide on this road with a one way traffic light controlled section reminding us all of the weather effects in our part of the world. A later than normal 8.00 am start in a dry East Kilbride resulted in a somewhat damp and drizzle day by the time we had reached Arrochar. Undaunted however, wet weather gear was donned and a selection of hills were tackled including the Munro Beinn Narnain and slightly lower hills but still a little challenging The Cobbler and Beinn an Lochain. Despite the wet there were substantial snow fields on the tops although icy conditions were thankfully absent. Navigation skills were used due to poor visibility and the views from the top consisted mainly of the inside of a cloud. Two brave younger lady members tackled Glen Kinglas and a climb up to Binnein an Fhidhler. They turned back at Creag Bhrosgan however due to time constraints and the need to link arms to stay on their feet due to high winds. The Mums and Children contingent were congratulated on their twelve mile low level walk and we are pleased to see the new generation taking an active interest in the club. All were safely back in Arrochar for a 45 minute social stop and with the Social Convener being shamed into distributing his winning raffle prize of the box of chocolate biscuits throughout the bus the happy band were back in East Kilbride by 7.30 pm.
