Boots
Buy the best 3-seasons boots you can afford. Make sure they are waterproof, breathable and have good ankle support. Try on various boots in the afternoon when feet may be sweaty or puffy before making a decision. |

Socks
Wear socks with a greater proportion of wool if you get cold feet and socks with more synthetic material if you have sweaty feet. |

Warm Base Layer
This should be made from fibres which allow sweat to be drawn away from the body. |

Fleece Jacket
A jacket which is windproof, breathable and repels rain would be ideal. Some people may prefer two lighterweight fleeces to help adjust their temperature. |

Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
Jacket and trousers should be highly breathable and waterproof. Jacket with wired, adjustable hood and large pockets with water resistant zips would be ideal.

Hat and Gloves
Remember to stop heat loss at the extremities. |

Trousers
These should be windproof and allow room for movement. Some people prefer cargo trousers or tracksters. |

Essential Equipment
Basic equipment necessary for suvival in the Scottish hills:-rucsac, survival bag, map, compass, whistle, food and water,extra clothing and head torch. |

Walking poles, mobile phone, GPS and hot drinks.
For Winter climbing, ice axe and crampons are a must. |
