CLUB REPORTS

Attadale 2009

The bubble has burst:-

Eight of us from the club have been going away for the week, usually at the beginning of September, since 2004. We have rented a cottage at Attadale every year with the exception of 2005 when we stayed at Cannich. Until this year the weather has been exceptional and we have tended to think it would always be.

On Sunday 27th September, we walked from Achnashelloch Station through the Coulin Pass to the bothy where we had our lunch and let some of the water drip out of our jackets. We then returned the same way instead of continuing right round. The driving wind and rain ensured we were completely soaked to the skin.

Monday saw us walking from the cottage up the path that leads to Bendronaig Lodge but again the rain persuaded us to cut the walk short.

We opted for another low level walk on Tuesday. Parking our cars at Strathcarron Station, we walked up the path from Achintee. According to weather reports this was to be the worse day, so we did not take lunch with us but as luck would have it - it did not rain but we had to turn back because we had no lunch.

On Wednesday we planned to walk up the path maintained by the Scots right of Way Society to the Coire Mhic Fhearchair at Beinn Eighe. Two hours along the path, I slipped and fell on to my walking pole bruising or breaking my ribs. On the way back from the Coire, Lesley tripped and cut her lip and scraped her chin.My side was a a bit painful so I visted the doctor in Lochcarron the next day. Tom and I took it easy visiting Eileen Donan Castle in the Afternoon. John on the other hand cycled up to Shieldaig, over the Bealach Na Ba and down the twisty road from Applecross.

On Friday six of us drove over the Bealach to Applecross to sample the great fish dishes at the Applecross Inn.

Although the weather let us down for the first time, the company, great food and laughs more than made up for the disappointing weather.
