CLUB REPORTS

Club weekend at Invergarry, August 2008

Another successful weekend at Invergarry. Again, we were not short of special events to celebrate. During 2008, Bob celebrated his ninetieth birthday, Alec and Charlie their eightieth birthdays and Dave and Mary their sixtieth birthdays. I'm sure we'll find many events to celebrate in the next few years and keep this great tradition. Many thanks to David again for all the planning and organising.

Maureen's Story

Nik and Maureen Moss drove up on Friday night, stopping at Ballachulish for a picnic 'with a sunset'

On Saturday we drove to the south end of the Corrieyairick Pass to explore a new area for us and conquer two Corbetts.  Walking on what felt like the original surface of General Wade's Road made us imagine we were part of a column of redcoats.

On Sunday we went up Glen Roy to inspect the Parallel Roads and bag Carn Dearg.  Tom had alerted us to the existence of a 'natural bridge' over the Burn of Agie at 369918 so we went in search of it on our way off the hill.  What an amazing phenomenon! The burn is in a deep gorge seemingly containing a jumble of enormous boulders with huge semi-circles gouged out of them by the violent action of the water tumbling down through the ages. The bridge is formed by a choke of these boulders covered with lush vegetation so that it is very difficult to see what is solid enough to walk over.  Standing looking down it is difficult to see the water way beneath you, and you have a swimming sensation in your head warning you not to look down for too long lest you get sucked in! Very difficult to photograph, but well worth a visit!

It was a great weekend, and once again we are indebted to David for organising it.
