CLUB REPORTS

Who is secret Sam-ta? - 2004

13 members arrived during the evening and into the night at Mill Cottage for the Xmas adventure that is the EKMC Xmas Dinner meet. It was great to see some new faces as well as the usual suspects.

Saturday dawned dull but cold and the intrepid mountaineers started breakfast and planning at the crack of 9.00am! In the traditional style expected for the month with the shortest days, Angela & Sam, Tom & Winnie walked down to Ruidh-aiteachain bothy in Glen Feshie while Stewart, David, Janet and Alison drove up to the Cairngorm high car park and walked into Coire ant Sneachda to have a look at the climbs. This was helped considerably by the sky clearing and the cloud lifting as we arrived at the first aid post to have a spot of lunch!

The Christmas festivities started with Stewart in charge of the kitchen, ably assisted by his little helpers. They conspired to produce a gourmet meal of turkey and all the trimmings with the 'posh'addition of partridge and pheasant. After dinner (but before desert) we decided to retire for a few minutes to give main course a chance to go down. While we were resting there was a knock at the window and low and behold we were visited by Sam-ta, who brought us all presents. Sid had been a very good boy as he got a bow and arrow set from Sam-ta, but David must have done something very bad to only deserve dental floss!

As there was a spare present we decided to have an archery contest to see who would open it. Jackie(Pocahontas) Blythe won, with a stunning 3 can knock down with a single arrow. Her prize - an Elmer Fudd style xmas hat that never left her head again all night.

Desert was the traditional flaming xmas pudding with a cheese board to follow. There was no-one capable of moving, let alone take part in one of Angela’s choreographed dances, to the sounds of Disney classics - but we managed somehow!

Sunday dawned late again and with the temperature at -12 in the car park it took a while to get the cars all defrosted. Most people headed to the shops or home but with the promise of good views and a nice walk David and Janet climbed Sgor Goaith. We were rewarded with deep, crisp snow and great views west - all the way to the Ben and beyond.

Thanks to Sam for organizing the trip and the meal. we all look forward to the next festive offering.
